In our Sunday morning matinee, Philipp Zeller (well known to the loyal fermate audience) will once again impressively demonstrate the bassoon's diversity of colour and expression. Two trios for clarinet, bassoon and horn are at the centre of the programme, a brilliant one by Beethoven's contemporary Bernard Crusell and a tongue-in-cheek one by Gottfried von Einem from the classical modern period. In Daniel Schnyder's highly virtuosic duo for bassoon and double bass, the two instruments flirt strongly with jazz before Jean Francaix's lively divertissement finishes with a little French flavour and esprit...
