During our stopover in Austria, we are greeted by Franz Schreker's sonically refined late-romantic mood piece "Der Wind" (The Wind) in the delightful combination of violin, cello, clarinet, horn and piano - before Ernst Krenek sings about the rain and changeable weather in the Austrian Alps in a highly amusing way. The songs from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" by Gustav Mahler are also humorous and playfully naive. The afternoon concludes with the supernaturally beautiful Piano Trio in E flat major from the year of Franz Schubert's death, praised by many as the ultimate in Romantic chamber music: Immediately moving and captivating.
