Von der Salzgewinnung zum Kurbad

Bad Dürkheim

Bad Dürkheim has been a mineral spa for more than 100 years and a brine spa for even longer, and we have the brine springs to thank for that, which have been used for a long time. Bad Dürkheim's "white gold" already attracted the Celts 2,500 years ago. For centuries, salt was produced in the salt pans, consuming vast quantities of wood in the process. Until the 18th century, when the graduation works revolutionised salt production: monumental buildings up to 750 m long graded the brine. In the next century, when the time of salt production was over, the graduation buildings became open-air inhalatories, and the Solbad Bad Dürkheim was allowed to welcome guests from all over the world. Today, the spa park with its eleven bridges and water features is more beautiful than ever and the ideal place to immerse yourself in the glamorous old days with the tour guides. On a visit to the Dürkheim Gradierbau you will learn about its eventful and dramatic history, from an industrial building to one of the largest open-air inhalatories in Germany, overshadowed by two fire disasters.
ATTENTION: Due to the current situation, it is not possible to visit the saltworks with the tour guide. After the guided tour, you are welcome to enter the graduation building with your ticket and stay there.
