Description

The redesign of the room follows the design of the artist Paul Nagel (Cologne-Wesseling). A key feature is the relocation of the original preserved baptismal font from its original location below the triumphal arch to the rear of the church at the intersection of the longitudinal and transverse aisles, standing on a large red cross made of Persian travertine. Other elements include the white marble Star of David framing the baptismal font, indicating Edith Stein's origins in Judaism; the dove on the bronze cover of the baptismal font with the precious Gospel bead; the symbol of the fish as the identifying mark of the early Christians in the two handles of the cover of the baptismal font. The statue of the saint above the basin bears a cross; as a Carmelite, Edith Stein bore the name Teresia Benedicta a Cruce. The figure of St. Edith Stein is in a wreath of candles: as a saint she is now completely in the light. The motif of the cross is found several times in the church, also leaves as a sign of life - (the keystones of the vaulted ceiling, candlesticks, book stands, triumphal arch, sacristy bell, veiling of the organ and the tree of life in the apse of the choir room). The stained glass windows were designed by the local glass artist Eugen Krumholz. The tabernacle symbolizes the Torah shrine on the background of the pillar of fire in which Yahweh preceded the people of Israel to the Promised Land. The statue of Mary, the body of Jesus and Mary and John standing under the tree of the cross, the late Gothic figures and the winged altar in the rear part of the church were integrated into the newly designed space. At the end of the redesign a new organ was installed in 1998. This organ has 2199 pipes and was manufactured in the workshop for organ building Mühleisen, Leonberg.
