Description

The Sonnenberg vineyard stretches around the small winegrowing village of Leinsweiler.

The vineyard, which covers a total of 148 hectares, is protected from rain and cold weather from the west by its close location to the Palatinate Forest. The southern part lies in the lee of the Hämmelberg, the northern part lies on the lower slope and foothills of the Föhrlenberg. There, below the Slevogthof, the site is sloping with a 30% gradient - a rarity among the rather flat vineyards in the Palatinate. Due to the southern exposure and the steepness, the sunlight is particularly intense here. Just under 10 hectares of the vineyard have been classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE.

The soils are characterized by shell limestone and marl, so numerous fossil shells and shark teeth have been found here.

The Leinsweiler wine trail leads through the Sonnenberg vineyard. Several information boards show the grape varieties in the vineyard and give further information about cultivation, characteristics, taste and aroma of the different varieties as well as wine production.
