Once a year, the craft of drifting comes to life in Trifelsland. At the Triftfest on 30 June 2024 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), visitors can join in and watch and experience the forest and water up close.
The foresters vividly demonstrate what forestry work looked like over 100 years ago. The tour starts on the Triftweg towards the Woog. There, a tree is felled, the wood is transported down the slope to the water with a wooden sledge, thrown into the drift channel and drifted down the stream with the help of the dammed water. Participation is expressly encouraged in all activities!
The festival site is located in the middle of the Palatinate Forest near the B48 between Annweiler am Trifels / Rinnthal and Johanniskreuz / Kaiserlautern. There is an information stand, food and drink and a forest café with homemade cakes and tarts.
All year round, you can hike along the Trift Trail or explore the Trift facilities by mountain bike on Tour 11. Information boards provide information about the Trift and the Wooge in the Palatinate Forest.
Route description
GETTING THERE BY CAR From the B10 Landau-Pirmasens turn onto the B48 towards Kaiserslautern, after a few kilometres turn left towards Annweiler Forsthaus into a car park. From Kaiserslautern, drive from Johanniskreuz towards Annweiler am Trifels, turn right at the signs for Annweiler Forsthaus into the car park. Then follow a short footpath to the fairground.
GPS data for the fairground: 49°14'39.78 N I 7°53'02.86 E ON FOOT OR BY BIKE From Rinnthal you can also hike and cycle to the Triftanlage (distance from the railway station/centre of the village approx. 6 km, walking time approx. 1.5 hours). To do this, follow the Trift trail. The starting point is the information board in the centre of the village opposite the church.
