Hayna, which belongs to Herxheim, has about 1300 inhabitants. For centuries, the village was dominated by farmers and its wide village street with respectable half-timbered houses and tobacco drying sheds still testify to a small prosperity. The special feature of the village is its tobacco sheds, which enclose the village center like a city wall. The surrounding countryside is flat and offers excellent and well-developed cycling paths as far as Alsace, or through seas of vines as far as the Palatinate Forest. Along the well-maintained paths are wine taverns and inns that invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The southern Palatinate with its good climate is spoiled by the sun. It is also called the Tuscany of Germany.
