Meistersel Castle ruins

Ramberg

Description

Meistersel Castle was mentioned in a document in 1100, but its origins go back much further. Finds attest to a temporary settlement as early as the late Bronze Age. In the 12th century, the Meistersel was given as a fief to knightly servants. The core of today's complex was built around 1300 after fundamental renovation work. During the Peasants' Wars, the castle was looted by rebels and subsequently abandoned.

Further information can be found at Burgenlandschaft Pfalz.

The best way to reach the Meistersel ruins is from Landau on the B10 in the direction of Annweiler am Trifels. Just before Annweiler am Trifels, take the Ramberg exit. After the village of Ramberg, you come to the "Drei Buchen" car park after about 1.5 km and park there. Then cross the road and take the path on the right past the war graves memorial to the castle about 600 m away, which is well hidden on the mountain cone on the right.
