Castles along the Southern Wine Route
Be a knight or damsel once...
Once the prison of the English King Richard the Lionheart, Trifels Castle near Annweiler is the most historically significant castle on the Southern Wine Route. It takes its visitors on a journey back in time to the year 1193.
There are castles and palaces as far as the eye can see along the Southern Wine Route! The ruins of Madenburg Castle are located above Eschbach on the German Wine Route. It is one of the largest castles in the Palatinate and, once at the top, impresses with a panoramic view over the Rhine plain. Between the towns of Edenkoben and Rhodt unter Rietburg, in the middle of a picturesque landscape, lies the romantic Villa Ludwigshöhe Castle. Landeck Castle near Klingenmünster has the highest keep in the Palatinate.

Lama Hikes in the Palatinate Forest
Mit Pfalz-Lamas durch den Wald wandern...
You don't have to travel far for a hike with real llamas from South America. In Völkersweiler on the Southern Wine Route, guests can hike through the Palatinate Forest with the fluffy farm animals from the Andes. Each visitor guides his or her llama, and those who manage to get hold of a llama kiss even receive a llama driver's licence.
A wide variety of tours are offered, such as the tour to Trifels or forest and meadow walks in Völkersweiler and Annweiler. Another highlight: the overnight stay in the llama pasture in the sleeperoo.
