A bird's eye view of the Southern Palatinate metropolis: the Göbel family's ‘City Star’ Ferris wheel offers special views of Landau from 28 September - exciting events planned at lofty heights From London to Landau: It may not be the London Eye, but it has already stood in London's Hyde Park and, at around 70 metres high, it is the largest travelling Ferris wheel in the world! From 28 September to 27 October, the Göbel family's ‘City Star’ Ferris wheel will be making a guest appearance on the Alte Meßplatz in honour of Landau's city birthday. 48 enclosed, barrier-free and air-conditioned gondolas offer a special view over the southern Palatinate metropolis - and if you want, you can get information about the city in High German, French or Palatinate with the audio guide from the city's tourism office (BFT). In addition to its height - the Ferris wheel at the May and Autumn Market is ‘only’ just under 40 metres high - the ‘City Star’ will differ from the Ferris wheels at the May and Autumn Market by being rotated by 90 degrees. Visitors will be able to enjoy this new perspective of Landau every day from the official opening on 28 September and will also be able to watch the spectacle of the Bréal Marathon Landau on 3 October from above. There will also be a catering area around the Ferris wheel with snacks and cosy seating for visitors to linger. An additional highlight will be a converted American school bus, which will serve refreshments as an exclusive wine bar.
If that's not enough for you, the BfT team headed by Nina Ziegler has two special events up its sleeve: 10 October from 6 p.m.: City anniversary on the Ferris wheel, with anniversary cuvée, giant pretzel and water 19 October from 10 a.m.: Market breakfast from the Landau weekly market Tickets and further information on the events will be available from Monday, 9 September at the Tourist Office in the town hall or online at www.landau-tourismus.de. Ferris wheel operator Göbel has also planned four special dinner events with three-course menus on the Ferris wheel: There will be an Oktoberfest event on 7 October, an evening of Spanish tapas on 8 October, a Palatinate evening on 21 October and an Italian evening on 22 October. Tickets and information on these events are available online at www.riesenrad-citystar.de. Also to note: a street food festival will be held around the Ferris wheel from 25 to 27 October. A helpers' day for the blue light family is also planned.
