Hector Berlioz was one of the most controversial innovators in early French Romanticism - today his works have long been part of the canon of immortal masterpieces. His song cycle "Les nuits d'été" (Summer Nights), which gives its name to the opening concert, evokes the enchanting scents, colors and moods of a Mediterranean summer night. The lightness and brightness of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's music was an inspiration and stimulus for many French composers: The first part of the concert will therefore feature his "Prague Symphony". Both pieces will be heard in a charming and transparent arrangement for chamber ensemble. These two great works will be flanked by the effervescent, high spirited Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano by Francis Poulenc, the sensual and dreamy "Rhapsodie" for clarinet and piano by Claude Debussy and the virtuoso pianistic water fountains in Maurice Ravel's "Jeux d'eau".
