Column 5 - Jesus the Vine
"On that day, there is a magnificent vineyard... In the days to come Jacob will take root again, Israel will flourish and prosper and the world will be filled with fruit". In Jesus Christ this promise of the prophet Isaiah is fulfilled. What the people could not do on their own, he now enables them to do: to bear fruit. "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears abundant fruit; for apart from me you can accomplish nothing. And what is this fruit? Paul answers: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control".
