Column 3 - Vineyard - People of God

"The vineyard of the LORD is the house of Israel and the men of Judah are the vines that he planted for his pleasure". This is what the prophet Isaiah says, and even when Jesus speaks of the vineyard - he does it often - we feel that he means the people of God. His picture speech of the vineyard owner is provocative: he hires day laborers early in the morning, then at 9:00, 12:00 and 15:00 and then gives them all the same wages, probably out of concern for the families who needed the money. Nevertheless, no one is left behind. We too belong to the vineyard of the Lord and are called to work in it and bear fruit. The view of the vineyards reminds us of this.
