St. Martin

The wine and climatic health resort of St. Martin, which has around 1,800 inhabitants, is picturesquely nestled in a valley fold on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. The 13th century Kropsburg castle rises above St. Martin. From here you have a magnificent view over the Rhine plain and the "mule track of bliss", as the 80 km long "German Wine Route" is also known. In St. Martin, the "secret metropolis of Palatinate Tuscany", you will find stately half-timbered houses and aristocratic residences in romantic medieval alleyways. The historic town center has been a listed building since 1981. The Catholic church is particularly worth seeing: it stands at a former crossroads of two Roman roads. A first small wooden church was built here around the year 700, which gave way to a stone building around 1200. A rarity of the highest value are the pews from the 15th century, which today stand in the gallery.
