Description

The church of St Joseph in Offenbach an der Queich is located in the district of Südliche Weinstraße and in the diocese of Speyer. The parish church of St. Ägidius, which was originally mentioned in 1235, developed over the centuries and received its current patron saint, St. Joseph, in 1753.

The current building of St. Joseph's Church was consecrated on 8 September 1754 and underwent extensive renovation following damage in the Second World War and structural extensions in the 1960s. The baroque church tower and parts of the nave were preserved as monuments. The church impresses with its artistic decoration, including the altar wall and stained glass windows by Rudolf Dister, as well as the altar, ambo and tabernacle by Heinrich Betz. The interior design was conceived by Pastor Otto Spieß and other artists in a theological unity based on the Book of Revelation.

Particularly noteworthy are the highly symbolic windows depicting the Passover lamb, the vine and other biblical motifs.

To the side of the church tower is a crucifixion group from 1754; the four-storey tower with its striking spire characterises the village of Offenbach an der Queich.
