Kattelbasbrunnen

In memory of the midwife Katharina Lutz née Koch (1857 - 1933), who in 54 years helped over 1000 children in Weyher into the world, the tourist association erected the sandstone fountain on the east facade of the Old Town Hall, opposite the church, in 1999. It is the only midwife fountain in Germany. Katharina Lutz owed the honorary title "Kattelbas", high German for "Cousin Katharina", to her commitment and quick wit. At the beginning of the 20th century, the children of the village knew no other word for the midwife's profession: they called the "Kattelbas" when it was "so far". Under the arcades of the old town hall, you can listen to the lapping of the water while enjoying coffee and cake in the newly opened café.
