Description

Pleisweiler was one of the earliest foundations of Klingenmünster Abbey. In 1115, Archbishop Adalbert I of Mainz, in association with Bishop Bruno of Speyer, donated the church at Pleisweiler with its appurtenances to the abbey.

Since 1369 the church was temporarily in the hands of the Reformed until 1705. Before the Reformation it belonged to the district chapter of Herxheim, later to Weißenburg. Oberhofen and the village of Weyer, which burned down in 1622, were connected to Pleisweiler to form a parish.

The present church was built in 1757 according to the plans of the Electoral Palatine court architect Franz Wilhelm Rabaliatti under Elector Karl Theodor and renovated in 1957.
