Herxheim am Berg - Wehrmauer

Herxheim am Berg

67273 Herxheim am Berg

In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the county of Leiningen, whose counts, probably because of constant disputes with the Electoral Palatinate, equipped Herxheim with a fortification wall around 1450. The fortification wall was destroyed as early as May 1461 by the troops of Elector Friedrich I. Afterwards, the conquerors burned down the entire village and killed almost all the inhabitants (source: http://www.herxheimamberg.de/).
