Embark on a journey into the magic world of shoes...

The German Shoe Museum Hauenstein is the only one of its kind in the world, providing a fascinating presentation of shoes as a cultural asset from all eras and continents. Nostalgic manufacture and rattling machines, with the flair of the thirties and forties, conjure up an authentic ambience with their bewildering transmissions in the harmony between shoe manufacture, shoe history and social history. The embedding of the social circumstances of whole generations makes the German Shoe Museum Hauenstein unique. Over an area of almost 3,000 m2 spread across four action-packed floors, the museum offers remarkable clarity and vibrancy. The Ernst Tillmann Collection alone, the largest European collection of a private collector, comprises over 3,500 pairs of shoes from two millennia. The collection of celebrity shoes from contemporary personalities, boasting several hundred pieces, offers a very special experience and is the only one of its kind in the world.
The Palatinate Sports Museum in the German Shoe Museum is dedicated to the origins and development of gymnastics and sport in the Palatinate. More than 600 exhibits, numerous information boards as well as films and photographs illustrate the development of the sport from the end of the 18th century to the present day. A lot has happened in the collection since it opened in 2011. Numerous valuable exhibits have been added and bring the history of sport to life. Special exhibitions centred on specific themes complement the museum concept. For further information, please visit
