Castle Ruins of Erfenstein
The two freely accessible castles of Erfenstein were built north of the Speyerbach stream on the eastern end of Wasserstein Mountain at an altitude of 265 metres and about 80 metres above the valley floor. The lower complex was built on a sandstone cliff sloping steeply on three sides, the ruins of the upper castle are located on the next higher level beyond a modern forest road.
The ruins of Erfenstein Castle can be hiked along the "Three Castles Trail". The starting point is at the trail parking lot in Erfenstein, below Spangenberg Castle.
