The Drachenfels is one of the main attractions in Wasgau. It was probably built shortly after 1200. In 1523, the castle was almost completely destroyed. Two steep and very narrow red sandstone rocks bear the impressive ruins of Drachenfels Castle. The largest and best preserved building is the mighty eastern gate building. Numerous rock chambers and connecting passages have also been preserved. The emblem of the castle (outline of a dragon) was carved into the eastern wall of its core, but was later partially damaged. From the castle ruins, you have a magnificent view over the Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges Nature Park Biosphere Reserve.
