Description

Around the church in St. Martin there is an impressive open-air planting of biblical plants. Peter Straub, a winegrower and passionate botanist, had long harbored the dream of a bible garden for his home parish. Finally, in 1999, the necessary redesign of the green spaces around the parish church gave him the opportunity to realize his idea.

Plants that are mentioned in the Bible now thrive in the plantings, such as acanthus, pomegranate, tamarisk, olive tree and an Atlantic terebinth. Even a small carob tree grows here, whose name comes from John the Baptist. Of course, there is also a vine in the garden: "I am the vine, you are the branches..." In the center of the main garden - between the church and the parish center - there are plants that are not mentioned in the Bible, but are part of the wild flora of the Holy Land. Plants that are more associated with Christian symbolism and mythology have also found their way into the garden, such as milk thistle.
