Description

Peace monument with forest restaurant on the Werderberg near Edenkoben. The Peace Monument, inaugurated in 1899, together with the Strassburger Stone (1872), the Bismarck Stone (1898), the Moltke Stone (1902) and the stairway leading to it, form a monument ensemble that landscapes the slope of the Werderberg. Originally, this giant monument, which in terms of its dimensions belongs in a series with the monument to the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig, the Kyffhäuser monument, the Porta Westfalica and the German Corner in Koblenz, was intended to be a victory and peace monument and to commemorate the war of 1870/71, where the united German tribes were victorious against France. however, since 1969, the 1200th anniversary of Ednekoben, only the peace aspect has been apostrophized, so that today one speaks only of the peace monument.
